Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. She traveled widely with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
