Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it in mainstream music were unsuccessful. Perry was signed to two labels and later dropped by them before there was a release date for any of her recordings. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its humorous title track. She made a greater splash several months later with the track I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a sharp electronic-pop beat. The song quickly stirred debate as some critics accused the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians and others charged that the explicit scenario the song depicted sparked men's fantasies about sexuality among females. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single due to the combination of sexual enticement and a refined tune. It also helped her sell a number of albums, including The One of the Boys. Hot N Cold was a hit in America, and the second track on the album Hot N Cold with its sharp tongued bouncy beat also became popular.
